The Gestetner 3220 is a 20 page per minute copier, printer, scanner and fax that is designed to last. It’s robust construction and no-nonsense design is testament to the fact that it is built to perform under any circumstances.
Small workgroups or businesses who need a laser device that combines quality printing with a long service life would do well to consider the 3220. Gestetner might not be the first name that springs to mind when considering office equipment, but consider that they are owned by Ricoh and any worries should go away.
The 3220 works very quickly. It also warms up quickly too, the average time was just under a second when we tested it. The first copy appearing after 9 seconds, which is very good. Once warmed, it will produce copies at a rate of 20 pages per minute. Text quality was good, every page was clear and every letter was printed exactly. Even charts were reproduced neatly, with all the edges presented exactly like the original.
Out of the box, the machine is easy to install. Most vendors will install it for you, but if you purchase it used, or have to move it, it’s good to know. Once unpacked, the toner and drum are installed then the USB or parallel connections fit in the back. Paper is output in the middle, which means there aren’t any flimsy trays of document handlers to worry about. The optional duplexer adds double sided printing to the mix which should add to the machine’s attractiveness.
All the functions seem to work well, especially the printer and copier. Scans and faxes are pretty standard affairs, both work well and can be easily controlled from the front panel. The panel itself is fairly simple, which makes it easy to learn. Everything you need is there is plain simple language, with clear labeling.
Not everyone needs to print in color so a mono laser is a good option in those cases. Cartridges and drums are reasonably priced, bringing the cost per page to an affordable level. The Gestetner 3220 is a solid workhorse multifunction that won’t let you down.
