Konica Minolta BizHub C550

The Konica Minolta BizHub C550 is a full-scale document handling powerhouse. Konica spend a lot of time planning and designing the BizHub range, and it shows. The C550 is a well built, well conceived multifunction that can print, copy and scan with the option to add faxing too.

Out of the box, the BizHub C550 is a good looking beast. Gone is the beige of many manufacturers machines, and in is the light gray with slate gray panels. It looks sleek and modern and works as well as it looks.

Installation is included in the purchase price so users don’t really have to worry about it. The device run best when networked, but can be controlled by USB if necessary.

The most important quality of any office device, is how it produces documents, and the BizHub C550 doesn’t let you down. Text is crisp, black print is black and there was no evidence of banding or jaggies to be seen on any of the prints. Image reproduction was superb, toner coverage being smooth and solid with no obvious bleeding or overprinting. Color takes a bit longer than mono to print, but the finished article was well worth the wait. The official speed rating is up to 45 pages per minute for color and 55 for monochrome. While we didn’t quite get that, the rate was near enough to still be impressive.

The scanner is equally as good, with a scan dpi of 600. There is also an automatic duplexer, a decent spec processor, 1024Mb of memory and a 60Gb hard drive. The BizHub C550 was built to handle anything, and it certainly handled our tests with ease.

Overall, the BizHub C550 is an excellent device. Print and copy quality is of a high enough standard to be confidently used for any purpose and it produces them at a rate that is sure to impress even the most demanding user. The C550 is a good looking machine as far as they go, and the different color scheme will add a bit of flair to wherever they end up. It is an ideal multifunction for busy offices who are as interested in speed as they are in quality.
