The Lexmark Optra T644 is another quality printer from Lexmark, which just confirms its place as one of the premier printer manufacturers in the world. This is a no-nonsense, hard working printer for busy offices who don’t need to print color.
The control panel is simple and straightforward, the silver fascia outlining it nicely. The buttons make selection as easy as it can be, while the small LCD screen is bright enough to see clearly. Most changes are done via the drivers though which duplicates whatever the control panel does.
Copying is of good quality and at up to 48 pages per minute is fast too. Printing of our test document was clear and accurate, with enough detail to be impressive on images. Image reproduction was also good with no artifacts or banding on photographs.
Connecting and configuring the Optra T644 is as straightforward as it gets. The networked version of the T644 is easy to set up, with the standard USB version present on all models even more so.
The build quality is just what we have come to expect from Lexmark. Nothing feels flimsy or cheap, and it looks well built enough to last a good while. Toners are straightforward to replace, and are inexpensive. Cartridges are good for 21000 sheets, and the drum is good for 32000. That is an astounding amount of printing for such a modest unit.
The Optra T644 is a quality, hard working printer. It may not look the prettiest office machine in the world, but it more than makes up for it with great productivity and great print quality. An ideal device for busy offices to want the best of both worlds, fast printing of a high standard.
